Ticonderoga. Robert Russell Towndrow, 88, of Ticonderoga, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Heritage Commons Residential Healthcare of Ticonderoga, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tarrytown, New York, he was the son of the late George and Pearl (Demas) Towndrow. Mr. Towndrow was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during W.W. II. He was a resident of North White Plains for many years, where he was in the restaurant and catering business. He was the owner and operator of the North Castle Restaurant of White Plains and the Village Inn of Bedford Village. He served as a volunteer fireman in North White Plains for many years. Bob moved to Ticonderoga in 2008. He was known to be a gracious host who especially enjoyed serving and the company of his friends and family. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joan N. (Maxwell) Towndrow; three children, Robert Towndrow, Jr. of Yonkers, NY, Lynn Romano of Goldens Bridge, NY, and Mary Jo Garrity of Carmel, NY; two sisters, Marge Butkuvitch of Bridgeport, CT and Sally Weaver of North Carolina; and several grandchilldren. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Charles Maxwell and his wife, Janet and William Bolton and his wife, Sandra; and one sister-in-law, Carol Johnson and her husband, Gregory; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours for relatives and friends were held Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Kevin D. McEwan, Pastor, officiated and the Mass was con-celebrated by the Rev. Timothy G. Canaan. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Mr. Towndrow's family would like to thank Heritage Commons Adirondack Wing and High Peaks Hospice for the wonderful care, Bob received during his two month stay at the Nursing Home.
