GRANT H. SPAULDING JUN 11, 1924 - JAN 30, 2014

Crown Point Grant H. Spaulding of Crown Point passed away on Thursday, Jan. 30, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old. Grant was born June 11, 1924 in Crown Point to the late Earl and Grace (Cogswell) Spaulding. He was a lifetime Crown Point resident. During World War II Grant enlisted in the United States Navy. He served proudly in Europe where he was wounded twice receiving 2 Purple Hearts. During his recovery period, he met the love of his life Lillian who predeceased him. After being honorably discharged from the service he went to work for International Paper Company from which he retired after 39 years. During that same time he and Lillian ran Spaulding's Snack Bar which they very much enjoyed. In later life Grant ran a firewood business which kept him young and active. Grant very much enjoyed his family and participating in events with them. He like pointing out that he was one of four living generations. He was extremely self-sufficient and was always doing something constructive. He was a member of the Crown Point Fire Dept. and the Crown Point Fire Police. He was also a member of the American Legion and the International Quarter Century Club. Grant is survived by son Ralph and wife Sandra, son Grant Jr. and wife Nancy, daughter Carolyn. His grandchildren and great grandchildren are grandson Casey and wife Ryanne and their sons Cooper and Jack, granddaughter Yancee, granddaughter and husband Phil and their sons Bailey and Alex, and granddaughter Nichole and daughter Megan. He was predeceased by one grandson Ralph Jr. He is survived by one brother Earl and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Grant has a large family and loved them all. Arrangements are under the care of Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Calling hours will be Monday, Feb. 3 from 6-8 pm with a service to follow.
