David S. Lansing, age 76, died suddenly at his home in Essex on Tuesday, December 10, 2013.
He was born in Schenectady, NY on September 20, 1937 to Donald S. Lansing and Dorothy Whitbeck Lansing Blair. He graduated from Scotia High School, Hudson Valley Community College and State University of NY at Oswego. He served as an MP in the US Army. He taught industrial arts/technology at Vestal High School and Willsboro Central School. He was Zoning and Code Officer for the Town of Essex and, at the time of his death, was Code Officer for the Town of Lewis. He was Fire Chief for Essex Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a position he proudly held for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianne Bender Lansing; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Patti Lansing of Newtown, CT; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Bruce Miller of Fly Creek, NY. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Alex, Julia and Nick Lansing, Nathaniel and Maria Miller; his brother, Mark Lansing and wife Denise, his sister, Penny Lansing delaRocha and husband Carlos; his brother-in-law David Bender and wife Debbie, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, and sisters Mary and Miriam (Muffy).
A memorial service will be held at the Essex Community Church on Saturday, December 14 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Essex Community Fund, (c/o H. N. Muller, PO Box 101, Essex, NY 12936
