Ticonderoga. Ruth Elizabeth DeVall, 85, of Ticonderoga, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Interlakes Residential Health Care Facility in Ticonderoga, NY after a brief illnes.
Ruth was born May 7, 1928, in Ticonderoga to Harry Robert and Hattie Hazel (Densmore) DeVall, who both pre-deceased her.
She was also pre-deceased by a brother, Robert DeVall and a nephew Sheridan DeVall.
Ruth graduated from Ticonderoga High School, class of 1946. She spent her entire life in Ticonderoga and was known by many as she babysat, cleaned homes and cared for the elderly for many years, dedicating her life to helping others. She visited the local nursing home weekly bringing cheer to the infirmed.
Ruth was a devout Methodist and attended all events at "her" church. She loved musical entertainment, chorales, the Junior Miss Pageant, Norma Strong and Marge Cross dance revues, Jeopardy, Lawrence Welk and Tootsie Rolls.
Ruth was a kind and loving spirit, extremely independent and self sufficient. Although Ruth had no local relatives in her later years, Ticonderogians were her family. Her circle of friends is large. She could be seen every day of her life (with rare exception and her last two weeks) walking through her hometown, speeding into the wind, her head down, on a mission, usually to do something for someone else. She will no longer be seen walking here on earth, but in Heaven, it continues. Ruth stood for courage, independence and decency and was a valued member of the community.
She is survived by a nephew, Michael DeVall and several other nieces and nephews of Albany; a cousin, Gwendolyn Harrell, and a cousin, Nelson Waters.
A Funeral Service took place at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Scott Tyler, Pastor, officiated.
Interment followed at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
Following the Services a reception was held at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.
Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the humanitarian organization of your choosing to continue her legacy.
