Newark: Evangeline Tierson loving mother and grandmother died peacefully on February 9, 2013 with family at her bedside. Survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, William; children Forrest, Brenda Sage, Sandra (Drew) Morris, David, Ann (Bill) Keenan, Eve (Lou) Wool, and Jan (Christine); cousin Laverne DeBruyne (who was like a brother); 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Dorothy Tierson and June Bishop; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Evangeline was pre-deceased by her parents Everet and Bernice (Hardy) Johnson; brothers Elmo and Mynard; and son-in-law Richard Sage. Evangeline was born 86 years ago in Williamson and attended Marion Central School, graduating in 1945. Before her marriage she worked in Rochester as part of the war effort and attended Buffalo State Teachers College. In 1947 she married Bill and together they started their family while Bill attended the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. They later settled in the Adirondack Mountains town of Newcomb, NY. There she raised her seven children on the shores of Rich Lake on the Huntington Forest. Vange was active on the school board and in Girl Scouts and was an accomplished artist. When Bill retired, the couple moved to a log house in Newark, NY that they built together. Vange enjoyed working outdoors alongside Bill. A loving, patient grandmother, she spent hours playing with the little ones. Vange battled Parkinsons Disease for 35 years, spending the last five in the care of a local nursing home. During those years her family, especially Bill and son David, attended to her daily. A private celebration of Vanges life is planned for immediate family. In her memory, friends may consider a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780.
