TICONDEROGA. Philip Warren McLaughlin of Ticonderoga, loving father and grandfather, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 9, 1935, on Staten Island to James and Estelle (Johnson) McLaughlin. A graduate of Curtis High School, Brooklyn College and the College of Insurance, Philip had a successful career in the insurance industry, becoming president of Samuel Metzger, Inc., and a principal of Johnson & Higgins, Insurance Brokers. In 2000, he retired to his Ticonderoga home on Lake George. Philip loved fishing, tennis, hiking and duplicate bridge. An avid reader, he read the entire New York Times every day. A lifelong animal lover, he spent many happy hours with his Labrador retrievers over the years. His loving companion, Gracie, was by his side when he died. The real love of his life was his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; his daughters, Collette Torri and Janet McLaughlin; sister Janet Marchese; son-in-law Dr. Giovanni Torri; and four grandchildren, Marina, Warren, Anna and James Philip. The family will hold a party in his honor in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ticonderoga Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga or The Black Watch Memorial Library, Ticonderoga, N.Y., would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.
